Full Version: Page size (cropped area?) changes unexpectedly

I've had this happen a few times now but I can't create the problem at will.

To the best of my recollection, the sequence seems to be:
  1. Select the first song (maybe from a set list, or collection, or the full "songs" listing - doesn't seem to matter which).
  2. play the first song - paging with the pedal as necessary
  3. play the next song, and so on.
  4. Somewhere along the line the "problem" might occur.
  5. if it happens, play around the issue and continue playing without further problems occurring*.

* It's never happened more than once in a set list/gig that I can recall

So, what is the "problem"?
Very rarely I will play a page, hit the right pedal to turn to the next page, play some of what's there, hit the left pedal (maybe a repeat or a DS etc.), hit the right pedal again and the bottom of the next page is off the screen, however, I can slide the page up with my finger and the bottom is now visible.

It seems that for some reason the page has become elongated and no longer fits the screen.  I've never noticed any stretching of the music, but obviously some must be happening.   Once it's happened to a song, it doesn't matter how often I page back and forth it will remail in the vertically elongated state.  I can, however, go back to a non-song display screen (setlist, main* screen etc.) and I'm pretty sure when I go back to the song that had the problem it has disappeared.

<edit> *  Not sure, but I think I mean the library screen</edit>

It has never happened when going from one song to the next (I need to tap the screen for this as I have the pedal set to not move to the next song - great option that  Wink  ).  Actually, it has never happened on a "first" page or a single page song at all.

I'm not sure if it's relevant but ALL my songs end up cropped, so the problem pages will have been cropped at some point in time.

FWIW I crop very aggressively.  Typically the page will be cropped to the point that the printing will have maybe 2 or 3 pixels of white space to the edge of the display area, both top and bottom.  I also try to do this for the sides but sometimes I must adjust this so the page doesn't end up too "long" for the display area.
NB the phenomenon I'm experiencing very closely resembles what happens if I "over crop" the sides of a page.

Most, but not all, of my charts are only 1 or 2 pages.

Page alignment is set to "Top"

Fullscreen Mode = OFF
Bump...
just had this happen again, at a gig I played last night.  6 Days, that's the shortest time between instances I can remember.  Especially concerning when you consider that I've barely used the tablet in those 6 days.
If you want to export the settings (Settings->Backup and Restore->Export Settings) and export the setlist to .msf and send it to mike@zubersoft.com, I can take a look at it to see if I have any luck reproducing the issue.

Mike
Done, thanks Mike.
Hi Mike,
I've just sent you an email with screen shots relating to this issue.  Different library, so different songs and different playlist to those I've previously sent you.
Bump...
Whilst quite rare, this is still happening to me.

As mentioned, it seems to require a left turn to trigger it.  Doesn't seem to matter if it's a left pedal, or a left tap.

Since the original posting on this topic I've changed to using half-page turns.
You might want to check the "Page Scaling" mode.
I had some rare cases where I also missed the bottom of a score and looking closer I noticed that "Page Scaling" was not "Fit Screen" (my default) as expected but "Fit Width". I always assumed that I did something wrong myself and corrected it. Maybe some mysterious coincidence changes "Page Scaling"unexpectedly.
I'll follow that up next time it happens.  I, too, have "Fit Screen" as my default.  Can "Page Scaling" change per page or is it for the whole song?
It's set for the whole song.

Mike
Thanks Mike.  This suggests that it's not the page scaling setting as it only occurs on single pages, even within a multi page PDF.  E.G. it might be the second page of a 2 page song etc..  I don't recall it happening on a single page song, or even the first page of a multi page song, but my memory could be letting me down on that.

Fortunately, it's a fairly rare event - actually it seems to be less often than when I first reported it back in 2023.  Perhaps intervening updates have impacted it.
Hi Mike, 'nother bump:
Although nothing has changed for ages* (same firmware, same version of MS) I've just had a couple of occasions where the problem (page unexpectedly stretching off the screen) has occurred AND I couldn't use my finger to scroll the page up as I could in the past.

Today, while playing the last song of a 4 song set in church**, it happened again and it occurred to me to turn the tablet to landscape and then pack to portrait to force a re-write and it was fine.  Of course it fixed it...  Hmmm, OK... Maybe if I use the "button" that tells the Tab X to redraw the screen (for when the screen gets those ghost lines) and see if it fixes it then.  That way it is the Tab X doing the redraw without MS involvement (I think...).  If it doesn't fix it, then problem is more likely to be in MS (I think...)

* Not quite true...  MS was updated in May to 3.9.41

** We played 2 songs at the start of the meeting, then the other 2 at the end of the meeting.  The case over was closed in between to conserve battery.  In this case, it was in the last song when the problem occurred.
I'm sorry to hear that. Can you remind which display mode you have selected (single page, vertical scrolling, etc)? Definitely let me know if forcing a screen refresh fixes the issue for you.

Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike,
I'm currently using half page turns, but when the problem first appeared I was using full page turns, I don't use scrolling at all.

Just to confuse the issue, I'm currently doing the 4.2-rel)0603)095d17272b firmware update.  Hopefully this doesn't have the problems you referred to in News.
