Full Version: Windows 10 import problem

I've been using MobileSheets since 2012, but I manage my database entirely on my tablet. As such, I'm not familiar with how the companion program works.

...but earlier today I tried to help a friend who just bought a new tablet and is using MobileSheets for the first time. After helping her through the settings on the tablet, the next step was for her to import some PDF files.

Sadly that didn't go the way I expected. She had no problem installing MobileSheets Companion on her Windows 10 PC, and she was able to connect the tablet to it. But when she tried to import files, the dialog box was too large to fit on her monitor all at once, and in particular both the top and bottom of the window were off the edges of her screen.

...so she had no difficulty choosing the files she wanted to import, or in specifying the collection she wanted to add them to, but the Save button wasn't visible, and she wasn't able to move or resize the window to make it visible.

I understand that this pretty much has to be a problem with Windows rather than anything wrong with MobileSheets, but I don't use Windows myself and I wasn't able to help her. Can anyone suggest what I should advise her to do?

Thanks,

Is she unable to increase the resolution on the monitor or decrease the display scaling in Windows? It sounds like either the resolution is extremely small, or the display scaling is very high. You can temporarily lower the display scaling if it's currently set pretty high. I should add that the companion app does try to ensure the windows aren't off the screen (there is code to explicitly shrink the window if it's larger than the screen), so I'm not sure how it managed to be larger than her screen. If you hold the Windows Key and press the left or right keys, it will snap the active window to the left or right of the screen. That would give you access to resize it potentially. The last thing I should add is that many of the windows have a minimumed supported size. So if her display scaling is set to an extremely large value, the windows may be unable to shrink further.

It didn't look like her display scaling was exceptionally large (and for what it's worth, the batch import window fit entirely on her screen), but I was only looking at remotely using screen sharing, so it's difficult to be sure. I'm not sure she even knows how to change the display scaling in Windows (and I certainly don't either, at least without looking it up, given that I don't use Windows myself). On the other hand, I also don't know the size and resolution of the monitor she was using.

Regardless, the next time I'm working with her on this (probably Thursday afternoon) I'll ask her to try your suggestions.

Thank you for your help on this.
