I’m contemplating shifting from an iPad Pro to a larger Android tablet for my music needs.  Lessons learned from folks who have made the switch would be appreciated. 
 
My current setup is an iPad Pro using MobileSheets; copies of all my music, as well as periodic MobileSheets backup files, are stored on a Mac laptop.   Communications between the iPad and Laptop occur directly over my WIFI network. I do not use Dropbox or Google Drive as an intermediate destination.  My understanding is that to switch to a new tablet, all one needs to do is import the desired backup file – easy peasy(?).  Otherwise, the workflow is the same?

On a related note, I’d appreciate comments on the utility of the pencil for both the Samsung and NXT tablets, even better if comparisons to the Apple Pencil can be made.

Yes and yes, import the desired backup file and the workflow is the same.

Sorry but other questions you have I do not have any experience of so I cannot help.

You will have to buy MS again for the Android device

Having used both iPads and Samsung tablets with an S-Pen, I think the two are pretty comparable in my opinion. The Apple Pencil is slightly nicer, but currently the stylus support on Android is better than iOS as I have not gotten my hands on a newer iPad Pro yet with the latest Apple Pencil that has proper support for hovering.

I have been using a Samsung Galaxy tablet (13") for some years. And recently, I added an Acer Iconia A16 (16" tablet, yes it is huge ), since 13" is a bit small for 2-page mode.

To sync the Acer, I did the following:

• Create a backup file on the Samsung
  
• Create an empty database on the Acer
  
• Load the backup file
  

To update/sync now, I do:

• Select sync library on the Samsung as "Server" and start
  
• Select sync library on the Acer as "Client" and specify the IP address of the Samsung, and start
  

Within seconds, the tablets are in sync.

I did consider a shared library on Dropbox, but I don't want to have conflicts when using both tablets at the same time.
I use the Samsung for annotations because the S-pen works better than the (capacitive) pen on the Acer (which you have to buy separately). The Acer is mainly for rehearsals and performances.
