Problem with latest Onyx firmware for BOOX tablets

In Onyx's latest firmware for some tablets such as the BOOX Tab X, a new screen refresh problem has emerged. With the new default "Speed" refresh mode, the screen will seem to jump backward and then forward as the refresh is occurring, and this refresh seems to happen at some random point in time decided by the operating system. While I believe this is a firmware issue that must be resolved by Onyx, there is a workaround:

1) On the home page of the tablet, long press the MobileSheets icon, tap "Optimize", enable the "Switch to Speed Mode when Dragging"option, but uncheck the option to force a full screen refresh after a period of time
2) Load MobileSheets, then drag up from the bottom right corner of the screen. This will display the Onyx configuration overlay which lets you change the refresh mode, coloring and DPI for the application. Change the refresh mode to "Regal".

You can also use the navigation ball to access the refresh mode settings. This combination of settings seems to provide a better experience overall, at least until Onyx fixes the default behavior.

MobileSheets version 3.9.38 is now available for download on all three platforms. This is a small update that was released to address a few bugs, namely transposing issues with ABC files. The next update is adding support for nextcloud, and may include a few other small fixes before I turn my attention to version 3.10.0. The full list of changes can be found below:

MobileSheets version 3.9.35 is now available

I'm happy to announce that version 3.9.35 is now available on all platforms, along with version 4.1.8 of the companion application. The main new feature in this update is the ability to automatically synchronize annotations when using the Connect Tablets feature, which is extremely important when using book mode with multiple tablets. There are also a number of enhancements and improvements, and the addition of two new languages (Slovak and Turkish). There is also a native ARM64 version available now for Windows. This will significantly improve performance and stability on devices with ARM64 processors. For FastSpring customers, a separate installer is now available for this, so you will see a notification asking if you want to switch to the ARM64 version if you have an ARM64 version. This will bump the version to 3.9.36 and install the ARM64 version. For Microsoft Store customers, it should all happen automatically with the update. Please note that face gestures are not supported with the ARM64 version due to incompatibilities with Google's mediapipe library. The full list of changes can be found below:

A fair number of users were encountering issues with audio playback when "Use advanced audio player" was enabled, so this update fixes that problem. Windows (FastSpring) Reinstall Required To Get Future Updates

This post is to inform users that purchased the Windows version of MobileSheets through the FastSpring store that version 3.9.30 is going to require users to backup their library, free the license key, uninstall MobileSheets, reinstall MobileSheets, enter their license key and then restore the library in order to get future updates. The reason for this is the digital certificate that is used to sign the installer has changed. The company that previously provided the certificate went out of business and I had to switch to a company called DigiCert. DigiCert changed some of the information in the certificate and they were unwilling to make modifications to that information due to their validation policy. The changes to the certificate results in the installation directory for MobileSheets changing. The reason this occurs is because Microsoft decided that the installation directory for applications installed through a .msixbundle file should be determined by the certificate that is used to sign the application. This is a ridiculous solution in my opinion, but it is not something I can control or change.

Users have two different options for moving their data after reinstalling, which I will describe below:

Option #1 - Use a library backup file

Step 1: Load MobileSheets, tap the three dots at the top right, then Settings, then Backup and Restore and finally "Backup Library. Tap the folder icon to select a destination, then tap OK. After the backup finishes, tap OK
Step 2: Tap the "About" section on the settings screen, then tap "View License". Next, tap "Uninstall". This will free the license key so it can be used again after reinstalling. Alternatively, you can save a license file and load that license file later, but I would generally recommend just uninstalling the key and then entering it normally.
Step 3: Uninstall MobileSheets in Windows under "Add or Remove Programs"
Step 4: Download the latest MobileSheets installer using the link that was provided after purchasing (contact me at mike@zubersoft.com if you need this link).
Step 5: After reinstalling the software, load it, and enter your license key or load the license file
Step 6: Go to Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Library from Backup, tap the folder icon, then select the .msb file that was generated. Tap OK, then tap OK after the restore finishes. The library and all settings should be as they were.

Option #2 - Move the application files manually

Step 1: Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Packages\Zubersoft.MobileSheets_9fx6hze9e3cne\LocalState. Copy all of the files and folders into a safe location.
Step 2: Tap the "About" section on the settings screen, then tap "View License". Next, tap "Uninstall". This will free the license key so it can be used again after reinstalling. Alternatively, you can save a license file and load that license file later, but I would generally recommend just uninstalling the key and then entering it normally.
Step 3: Uninstall MobileSheets in Windows under "Add or Remove Programs"
Step 4: Download the latest MobileSheets installer using the link that was provided after purchasing (contact me at mike@zubersoft.com if you need this link).
Step 5: After reinstalling the software without loading it, open Windows File Explorer and navigate to C:\Users\mzube\AppData\Local\Packages\Zubersoft.MobileSheets_kky44xebyat06\LocalState. Move all of the files and folders that were copied in step #1 into this directory.
Step 6: Open MobileSheets, enter the license key and the library should be as it was before reinstalling.

I am going to be sending out emails to every customer that purchased the Windows version of MobileSheets through FastSpring with this information as well.

Version 3.9.19 is now available (although it's waiting for approval on the Apple App Store). This update addresses some issues users faced after updating to version 3.9.18. For users that encountered an error with the incorrect transpose key being used for their text or ChordPro files, the only fix is to restore a library backup file from version 3.9.17, or go to Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Automatic Database Backup and revert the database back to a version from before the 3.9.18 update. Minimum supported Android version is changing to 7.0

Due to requirements from Google to target their latest OS and also have 16kb page sizes, this is going to force me to increase the minimum supported Android version to 7.0. There is literally no way for me to continue supporting older Android devices through Google Play with these requirements, as the third party libraries that I use will only work on Android 7.0 or higher. For users on older devices, the only option will be to switch to my FastSpring version. While I will continue trying to support older devices for a little bit longer, the nature of the changes is such that it will cause a large number of development headaches, so at some point I will have to fully drop support for users on older devices. Based on the statistics shown by Google Play, less than 1% of my users are on devices older than 7.0, so this will not affect the vast majority of users.

Linux Companion App is now available

I'm happy to announce that the Linux version of the companion application is now available for download: https://www.zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/companion

I would recommend using the .deb file for Ubuntu or other Debian variants, but I also provided a zip file for users that would prefer that. If users run into any issues with the Linux version, please let me know. I tested it on Ubuntu 22.04.1. I'm going to work on the MacOS install next.

I should also mention that dragging and dropping files into the companion application window does not work on Linux, as it's a limitation in the Avalonia framework. Hopefully it's something they will be able to address at some point in the future.

MobileSheets Version 3.9.7 and Companion App 4.1.0 Released

MobileSheets version 3.9.7 is now available for Android and iOS, and is awaiting approval for Windows. This update contains a few bug fixes for reported issues and a minor new feature. Additionally, companion app version 4.1.0 is also now available, and this update contains some significant changes, including an entirely new PDF library that opens up the ability to convert word (.docx) documents to PDF as well as combining and converting other supported file types to PDF in the song editor. This PDF library also makes it possible for me to properly support Linux and MacOS, as I was encountering significant stability issues with the previous library. The companion app also now supports an option to sort using grid column headers (which is how it worked with the 3.2.0 and earlier design) as well as list text size and grid column height settings for users that want to display as many entries as possible. I should mention that the only downside of the new PDF library is that the installer for the companion app has now more than tripled in size to around 140 MB, so it may take some users a little longer to download each update. Image capture issue

It has been brought to my attention that the advanced image capture and enhancement features are currently unavailable in version 3.8.43 of MobileSheets. This is due to a licensing error with the imaging library. I will push out a 3.8.44 to fix this on Android, and the 3.9.0 update will be released next week as planned. The issue will be fixed on iOS with version 3.9.0.
