Experimenting with Nextcloud sync. Set up to sync with a new (empty) folder.

Until now I haven't been able to transfer more than approx. 10-20% of my data. Every time it encounters an error on an arbitrary file (Error encountered transferring files: ...) and aborts.

When I restart the sync, it reports that it cannot find a library and starts all over again. And then fails again at some other file.

I noticed that the upload speed is horribly slow. Half an hour for 10% of the data... Average 5 seconds per file transfer regardless of size. For comparison, when I backup to Nextcloud uploading the complete backup (340Mb) takes less than a minute. The tablet has a strong WiFi connection (5GHz band, 866Mbps transfer speed).

Importing from Nexcloud is also slow (similar speed, one song per 5 seconds).
Maybe I am missing something in my Nextcloud settings?

I've tested this on my Android tablet with a Nextcloud server instance set up several states away from me, and it still imports both ChordPro and PDF files in a second or less (for smaller files in the 1-2 MB range). Similarly, the sync uploads new files in about the same amount of time (around a second or so per file). I don't know if there is a way to speed this up any more as it's just REST calls. On my PC with an ethernet connection, every file uploads in a fraction of a second, so it seems to be considerably faster (this is all for the next update on Windows which is going to include the conversion over to WinUI 3, so it involves significant changes).

If you want me to try with your backup, let me know, happy to do that. Perhaps the nextcloud implementation needs more resiliency for connection issues.

I'm also adding code to retry multiple times while synchronizing to netxcloud to handle situations with timeouts or temporary connection problems (as I was already doing that for other cloud services).

Ok, so for the time being my main suspect is my Nextcloud. I'll try to get more info.

I've created a small (6 songs) test library and succeeded in syncing this to a Nextcloud folder (average 10 seconds per file), So far so good.

When I start the sync again, I get a merge dialog for each of the song files. No songs were changed yet and the left and right sides of the dialog are identical. It doesn't matter whether I choose Mine or Theirs, the next sync will present all merge dialogs again.

I assume this is not intentional behaviour?

I mentioned it in another post, but there are currently bugs with the nextcloud synchronization. It's not correctly calculating and storing the file hashes, so it will reupload every file every time. This is fixed for the next update which I'm trying to wrap up ASAP.

I managed to speed up the transfer speed to under 2 seconds. Biggest improvement came from using an application password instead of the normal user password. Maybe that deserves a note in the docs.

I will have to give that a try to see if I also get speed improvements.
