MobileSheets version 3.9.18 is now available
#1
MobileSheets version 3.9.18 is now available. This update has been a long time in the making and involves a lot of big changes for ChordPro files. For an overview of some of the changes, please visit this link: https://www.zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/n...ion3-9-18/

See the full list of changes below:

Changes affecting all platforms v3.9.18
  • To see an overview of the changes, please visit https://zubersoft.com/version3-9-18.
  • Added support for isolating storage for libraries. This eliminates file conflicts by placing files for each library in a separate subdirectory under the storage location
  • Added new option in the overflow menu on the library screen to quickly switch libraries when more than one library is detected.
  • Added support for many missing ChordPro directives including image, define, chord, the SVG directives, textblock directives, and all font attribute directives.
  • Added new settings screen for text and ChordPro files that provides more control over the display of those files.
  • To access the new settings screen, tap the "All Settings" option at the bottom left corner of the Text Display Settings dialog, or the "Advanced Settings" option in the overlay
  • Added support for chord diagrams when using text or ChordPro files. These can be displayed at the bottom of each page or in a collapsible window at the bottom of the screen
  • Removed some settings from the text display settings dialog to shrink the size a bit and moved them to the new advanced settings screen.
  • Improved option to remove gaps between pages when using the vertical scrolling display mode. Content will now correctly flow between pages with no extra spacing
  • The instrument can be selected for text or ChordPro files to determine what types of diagrams are used
  • Fixed transposing logic to address errors in certain situations. The transpose dialog has been updated to remove the unnecessary sharp and flat buttons.
  • Added settings for ABC files to control the page margins and the scaling
  • Added support for transposing ABC files. Note that if an ABC file is transposed in the text editor, the notes in the file will not be modified and a transpose command is added instead.
  • Added support for PDF page labels and setting to control whether they are used. Page labels are shown instead of page numbers if present.
  • Added setting to resume reviewing the last loaded song or setlist at startup.
• Moved "Generate Song List" option under the "Share" menu, and it has been renamed to "Share list of song titles". Other sharing options have also had their labels changed.
  • Added option when generating a list of song titles to produce a PDF if desired instead of a .txt file
  • A list of song titles can now be generated when selecting any groups or lists of songs on any tab instead of just on the setlists tab
  • Fixed issue with duplicate files being created when exported or synchronizing to Google Drive. Existing files should now be corrected updated.
  • Improved handling of cloud services to ensure more services can be added soon. Disabled cloud services will no longer show up when invoking any actions on the library screen.
  • Fixed issue with inconsistent text file sizing that could lead to the text file layout changing unexpectedly in certain situations. This also fixes issues when using the next song bar.
  • Added option when importing .msf files to keep existing songs without modifications when an existing song is found
  • Fixed issue with the audio player not correctly switching the volume for each track in a song
  • Fixed bug when switching libraries where default groups could be incorrectly recreated under certain scenarios
  • Changed default library backup name to include the name of the current library
  • Fixed bugs with saved filters so that they will work correctly with all libraries
  • Updated to latest ABC library to get latest changes and added support for extracting metadata from ABC files
  • Added multiple options when using rating as part of the song title formatting. The rating can now be shown as a number, as filled stars, or filled and empty stars
  • Fixed bug with spaces being incorrectly stripped when processing PDF metadata. Only spaces at the start are now trimmed.
  • Changed the default backup reminder interval to 14 days. The backup reminder is also now only shown once per time the application is run.
  • Added manuals for every language using machine translation. These manuals will be updated over time to fix errors.
  • Added code to correctly handle the situation where a vertical scroll is invoked while the automatic scrolling is already actively scrolling
  • Removed setting to default to showing the number keyword as it caused problems for many users without providing much benefit
  • Removed "Edit" option on the group tabs when a particular group has not been selected.
  • Removed the option to use descending sort order with manual sorting, as this caused issues and confusion for some users
  • Added better error reporting when a failure occurs with a cloud service
  • Added warning and confirmation if synchronizing an empty library to a cloud folder, or when synchronizing an empty cloud folder library to the device
  • Added warning and confirmation if synchronizing two devices in a way that will result in an empty library
  • Added merge behavior option when synchronizing to a backup file to always use the data in the backup file
  • Fixed bugs with populating metadata from directories under certain scenarios.
  • Added option in the audio player to control whether MobileSheets will automatically advanced to the next track when the current track finishes
  • Fixed issue with the capo display and audio playback time display not correctly changing the white background to match the page color tone
  • Added optional warning and confirmation when saving changes in the annotations editor if the snipping tool was used, as this will modify the underlying PDF
  • Fixed bugs with the page color tone not being correctly applied when using undo and redo actions in the annotations editor
  • Updated to connect with companion app version 4.1.6 (connections will not be allowed with older versions due to database incompatibilities)
  • Fixed bug when picking a new language on the settings screen and then rotating the device before exiting the settings screen.
  • Fixed issue when resetting the page size dialog to use the full screen - it will now correctly use the full screen dimensions
  • Fixed issue where the maximum number of songs could be exceeded temporarily in the trial version
  • Replaced the "Select All" icon with a checkbox icon that should be more intuitive
  • Improved clarity of text on the library screen by using darker colors for the caption field (and lighter when using the dark theme)
  • Fixed the synchronize screen and batch import screen layout issues in various languages
  • Added a touch action option to toggle performance mode
Android v3.9.18
  • Added Slovak translation
  • Fixed ABC rendering on older devices
  • Added option to "Rebuild PDFs when Printing" which switches to the older and slower approach to printing. This can be used when errors occur with missing annotations in printed files.
  • Fixed various issues related to resizing the MobileSheets window when in multi-window mode
Windows v3.9.18
  • Fixed issues with the MIDI timing clock tempo not being accurate and stable
  • Fixed issue where the setlist, bookmarks, smart button and link point windows could be partially cut off in certain situations
  • Fixed issue with the setlists tab row height being too large when captions are hidden
  • Fixed issues when holding Ctrl and then clicking and dragging to zoom in or out with a text or ChordPro file
  • Fixed issue with the rating control not behaving properly in certain situations

  • Fixed issue that could occur where the library screen would be partially cut off in certain situations
  • Fixed issue with selecting multiple cloud folders for a batch import

In a separate post, I will be discussing upcoming changes that will affect users on older devices.

Hi Mike,
lotta work there mate.  Thank you.

Just one question, at least for now.  As one who is already using separate subdirectory structures for different libraries, how will the upgrade affect my existing database and directory structures?  NB I'm not allowing MS to manage my files.

Ahh, a some more questions:
Is there a need, or indeed, a way, to tell this new version where each library resides in the directory structure?

What would the ramifications be of changing to allowing MS to manage storage and given my existing configuration is this even advisable?

Can I specify the name of the libraries directory when creating a new library?

The database file for each of my libraries is in the current default location (exposed).  Does this get moved to the library folder?

Top Job, Mike.

Similar question as Lawrie though: Does the separation of the libraries mean that all the files are forced to be in separate directories and the libraries can't use the same files (space saving if they use identical files)?

For instance I made a duplicate library from my main one (which contains all my sheets) and reduced it (by deleting) so it can fit on my old iPad (with only 16 GB). But it used still the same files on the main device without wasting space.

  • Added Slovak translation

Thank you, Mike, there is a mass of updates you have incorporated. We are particularly happy here in Slovakia that you have been able to add the Slovak translation to Android, and we looking forward to when you can also add it to the iOS version.

Lawrie - it won't impact any existing libraries (you have to choose to edit them and select the option to isolate the storage if you want the files moved. Each library will be placed into a subdirectory under the storage location that has the same name as the database file (without the .db at the end obviously). You cannot chose this path yourself - the code is already complex enough with figuring out where to access everything that I don't want to make this user configurable. I would never recommend going from not letting MobileSheets manage your files to suddenly managing them unless you backup your library, then enable the option to let MobileSheets manage your files, then restore the backup and uncheck the option to restore settings. MobileSheets will then extract all the files from the backup into the location it wants to manage them. As far as the directory name, the library name matches the directory name, so name your library appropriately. Yes, if you isolate storage for an existing library, it will move the database file to the subdirectory for that library.

BRX - Yes, if you choose to isolate the storage for the libraries, then the libraries will not share any files (however if you mix not letting MobileSheets manage your files with the library storage isolation, then you can still share files between libraries, but that might not be the best thing to do). Given that you already have things set up the way you want, I wouldn't advise changing anything.

Lester - I need to find time to grab all the iOS entries that need to be translated (I think I might have mentioned that over email). So there will be a smaller of things to be translated before iOS can be supported. I also have not added a store page yet for Slovak, so I'll need to do that.

It depends a bit on which app store you purchased through. If you purchased through the Microsoft Store, open the Microsoft Store app, log in with the account you used to purchase MobileSheets, and tap the update button on the store page.

Thanks.
Microsoft Store worked, I looked there initially but did not see button.  I had to navigate over the updates and downloads page.

Hi Mike

Thanks for this big update
I've got a problem with the new transpose logic
It creates double sharp chords (##) instead of changing the chords sometimes
See the picture attached
Could it be one of my settings ?

I'll wait 3.9.19 then
FYI, I found out that in the parameters, if I select "Last chord" to detect tonality, everything is ok in the 3.9.18 transposer

Please make a separate post about that and share one of the files that is giving you problems (along with the selected transpose key) so I can look into it. If this happened after the migration to version 3.9.18, then that is fixed with version 3.9.19, but you have to restore a library backup from 3.9.17 or go to Settings->Backup and Restore->Restore Automatic Database Backup and revert your database to a copy from before 3.9.18. Then your database will be correctly converted with 3.9.19.
