This is what I posted in “General Discussion” in August without getting a single feedback.  I repost here hoping for getting some helps. 

For the last two weeks, I've been trying to enhance my practice by using the automatic scrolling feature, which seems to work but still puzzles me greatly.   

According to the user's manual, there are four different modes of scroll behavior, the first of which is "Scroll and Pause."   In my expected scenario, a user would open the first part of music and start playing (while the part being "paused") and later when he gets close to the end of the part, the automatic scrolling should kick in to make the second part visible.  So it seems to me that it should be  "Pause and Scroll", NOT "Scroll and Pause."    I have the same problem with "Scroll and Pause after Page Turn" mode as well. When a page turns, the page must be first paused, allowing the user to read it, and then scrolled to the next page, I think.   What did I miss here? 

I know there is a setting called "Time Before Scrolling Starts."  I suppose I can use it to make "pause and scroll" happen but it is not the best way. 

In my experiments, I tried to start scrolling from the top of the first page using "scroll and pause" mode.     Here I used "Pause Duration" = 40sec, "Scroll Speed" = medium, "Scroll Amount" = 50%,  "Time Before Scrolling Starts" = 0.   For some reasons, I got "pause and scroll" in stead of "scroll and pause" in more than 50% of the trials.  So I was able to use the automatic scrolling the way I wanted in those cases.  But I  am really confused now!!

Any helps and clarifications would be appreciated.

The idea with the wording is just that it will scroll and then pause, but it does pause before the first scroll, so if it makes it easier to understand, you can consider it as "Pause and Scroll", as I guess that is technically more accurate.

As I indicated in the post, I often get the first scroll without previous pause. It seems to happens when I use scrolling on a new song first time.  When this happens, I stop and start again and it usually solves the problem (scroll after pause) afterwards.  The problem may repeat when I load a new song.  It seems to me that the scrolling behavior has a bit of inconsistency.  

Another inconsistency I observed. I use the quick control box(?) to start/stop the scrolling. I often had to touch the scroll icon in the box several times before it turned orange.  I even had an instance in which the scrolling started while the icon hadn’t turn orange yet.

That's incredibly strange - I'll have to look into that, as that definitely shouldn't happen. It may be a bug specific to the iOS version.

As an attempt to fix this, I'm modifying some code to reset some variables (things called semaphores that are used for waiting with a way to cancel them with a signal if the user aborts the scroll, for example). We can see if this fixes the issue with version 3.9.21.

I'm glad to hear that! I only guessed at what might be the problem (as I couldn't reproduce it myself), so it's great to hear that my guess was correct.

One additional observation. I usually turn on metronome before I start scrolling. It appears that while metronome is running, the quick control box is somewhat slow to respond and I have to press the scroll icon several times before the icon turns orange.  I suppose the metronome thread would take extra cpu time, making ui slow.  I am using 4th gen. iPad Pro 13”.  Just let you know.

Instead of using the quick control box, you could try using a touch action on top right of screen (for example) to toggle the scrolling

I can't reproduce that - even if I have the metronome running, the quick action box is responsive and I can trigger automatic scrolling immediately. I have an older iPad Pro than you as well. I'm on iOS 26 (I'm not sure which iOS version you are on).

I use iPadOS 18.6.2 which must be the newest one.  After I rebooted my iPad, the quick control box seems to work smoothly with metronome running.  I should make it a habit to restart it often.   Thanks for your feedback.
