Hello!
I've been encountering problems since the new update from thursday or friday (30th/31st of October 2025).
Since then, the following list of things occur. Since we are talking about the iPad of another person, I am not completely sure what that person did to make this problem appear, but here it is and why I can't correct any mistake said person made:

1. If I edit and delete something and then want to switch back into normal mode, whenever I click the x in the up left corner, the program crashes completely and has not been saving whatever I deleted before.
Note: this also happens when I completely make sure that things have been saved while I'm in editing mode, but since I can not switch back without crashing, the edits don't save
2. In the file I wanted to edit, there has been mysterious appearances of one white rectangle and one stamp that copied whatever was in the pdf that served as the main file (in this case an empty sheet of music). Beneath that there is still the original pdf file and all the old edits and markings the person did. This rectangle and this stamp CANNOT be deleted due to problem nr.1.
3. This mysterious rectangle and pdf stamp do also occur in other files, that have not been edited for months. Here as well they cannot be deleted due to reason nr.1. The program just crashes whenever I leave editing mode, even if I make sure everything should have been saved.
4. Sometimes, when I want to leave the edit mode through the x, the program tries to save the edits, but it never finishes. Right now I have been waiting for 20 min and it's still not finished, so nothing will be saved. This is nothing that can be deliberately re-enacted.

I hope someone can help me, the person involved is deeply devastated since they cannot edit things properly anymore

Without knowing more, I'm guessing there is a major incompatibility between the PDF library and those PDFs now. Did the user embed annotations in the PDFs or use the snipping tool? That white rectangle sounds like the user selected the snipping tool, selected a region and then tapped "Cut". They saved the changes and then this embedded the annotation in the PDF. If you go into the annotation settings and uncheck the option to "Allow editing of embedded PDF annotations" and make edits, does everything work without crashing? If my theory is correct, then it should work just fine. It's only when trying to modify the embedded annotations that the problem should show up. Please first verify this, and then we can discuss options for fixing things. One of the simplest options here is to long press a song, tap the three dots at the top right corner of the library screen, tap "Swap File" and swap in a version of the PDF without those embedded annotations. This won't affect any of the non-embedded annotations and should put things back into a good state for that file.

Also, just a side note, version 3.9.29 did not change anything related to annotations or the PDF library. So I don't think these issues have anything to do with the update. Version 3.9.30 will be submitted today as well with other fixes, but nothing related to the annotations editor.

Hi Mike, thank you so much for your quick reply!

I unchecked the option to "Allow editing of embedded PDF annotations" and it worked fine.
Right now there hasn't been any problems so far since I corrected this mistake. The user will be more careful with cutting out things from pdf next time they told me

I am also sorry to make any comments about the update making problems, when it was really the mistake of the user.

I don't think there was any mistake here - you tried to use features in the app that, in theory, should work fine. Unfortunately, things get really complicated with PDFs, as the specficiation is overly complex and it leads to compatibility problems between different applications. The potential for problems rises when modifications are made to the PDF itself (versus just saving annotations in the database which are drawn on top of the rendered page).
