MS in Windows 11 – receiving but not sending MIDI
I have just upgraded my system from using MS on an android tablet to a windows 11 PC. MS version 3.9.33 is running on the PC.
I have the PC (and previously the tablet) cable linked to a Yamaha CVP 805. The MIDI device is set (in MS) as “Genos, PSR-SX models”. This worked perfectly on the android tablet since the CVP has a broadly similar operating system to the Genos.
I still have the tablet and as far as I can see the settings on the PC have followed the tablet. On the CVP and the windows PC the MIDI channels for send and receive are both set at channel 1 (same as the tablet was).
On the CVP I have over 200 mp3 backing tracks stored. (I did this for practical reasons – lack of storage on the tablet and the ability to use the backing tracks without MS if needed.)
The audio tracks are linked to individual songs in MS. I can see the links still exist by looking at a song and then “edit > MIDI” and the link is then found under the paper clip button (bottom right in the edit > MIDI section). A typical example being:
Genos, PSR-SX File: User D Registration/D-0575 Guilty.rgt button 8
If I call up a registration on the CVP, MS brings up the music sheet (i.e. MS is receiving MIDI), but MS does not link to the audio track (i.e. it appears MS is not sending MIDI data back to the CVP).
I have tried re-saving the registration on the CVP and then re-linking the audio track in MS (Edit > MIDI > paperclip) but without success.
I appreciate that the PC, now with the additional storage, would now allow me to save the audio backing tracks in MS (as an audio file) but I have over 200 tracks to amend.
Any ideas how to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
David G
