I have been using mobile Sheets connected to my Genos 2 for quite a long. MS is running on a windows 11 PC. I have had the ability to load registrations from MS 7 vice versa with without any issues. However I can eo play a mini concert recently & I could not get the MS & Genos to connect. I re-booted both machines several times(7) & fortunately at the last minute I got connection. 

On returning home I set the keyboard up as usual & again - No connection. I have checked the USB lead & tried an alternative & both are ok. 

I have checked the settings on both machines (even though I hadn't altered any) but all to no avail & I have run out of options. 
The thing I wondered if the recent Windows update may be causing the problem.

When I go to 'Configure Midi connections'  on MS settings Nothing is listed under Input or Output devices.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Or if some could post all the settings both for keyboard & windows so that I have a double check that mine are correct.

Thank you, I will try it tomorrow. However there has been a further update since KB5074105.

I have uninstalled the last 2 updates but this has not worked. I really need to get this sorted so any further help would be great.

H i Tony, It sounds like a Windows problem but to be sure I would do the following...
1. have a look in any other program you have to see if the Midi devices shows up it that as that will tell you if its a Genos problem or a Windows problem.
2. if you havent got another program that shows Midi  devices then download Midi-ox (or something similar) which can list midi devices.
3. Try the Genos on another Windows machine.
4. Connect a different Midi input device if you have one and see if Windows recognises that one, if so its probably a Genos problem

Other than the above I have no idea what the problem or cure is.

I am still battling this annoying problem. 
I did as you suggested with a piece of software called Pocket Midi, which immediately identified that the Genos was connected to Windows and as I pressed the keys it showed each note I pressed. I have to conclude from this that there is a problem with MS. I have re-checked all the settings but the intermittent problem persists.

Hi Tony, hope you sort it soon, just one other thought I have had - you could leave a reply to the link I gave from another user with the same problem and ask him if he found an answer .

PS just had another thought, you could try uninstalling MS and reinstalling it BUT make sure you do a back up so you can restore all your MS data.

At this point, it might be a good idea to backup all the application data under C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Packages\41730Zubersoft.MobileSheets_ys1c8ct2g6ypr\LocalState, uninstall MobileSheets, reinstall it, then before moving the data back, try to establish the MIDI connection. Then copy back all of the files, restart MobileSheets and try to establish the MIDI connection again. I would like to know if you can get the connection established both with a clean install and with your application settings in place.

Hi Mike,
I refer to your #8 idea which I commented under #9 above.

I did that testing as you described. I deinstalled MS (before I saved the folder you mentioned) from my ACER Aspire 5, restarted (new start) Windows 11, reinstalled MS (clean installation) with my backup MobileSheets song database. Now I linked my Genos2 with my notebook. 
I restarted MobileSheets, tapped on Genos2 registration display for a song. The cable link was activated in both directions (according to MS Settings > configurate MIDI link > Digvital Keyboard 1 were marked for transmitting and receiving), song sheets were shown, fine so far. I turned off MS and Genos 2. 
This first session was ok.

I gave myself a second trial by the same steps and now nothing happended, no active link, no communication. Settings for MIDI showed no Digital Keyboard linked to the PC. I repeated that twice and my PC was re-started twice.
The device manager showed (as it was during the last weeks) a hidden “ghost” entry at “View” (3rd Tab of the device manager screen) but this time instead of “Digital Keyboard 1” only "Digital Keyboard", greyed out. 
Your idea was a possible way to solve the problem, but failed too, no link and no communication.
Btw, I’m using the latest version of Yamaha Steinberg USB-driver, all other USB-drivers have been deinstalled some weeks ago.

I am able to open a song sheet on MobileSheets, that’s ok, however the very, very comfortable opening by tapping the song on my Genos2 display is not possible anymore.
I see no way of solution after about 20 hours of fixing trials activities in many respect and after that, I am really not sure what the real reason could be.

I guess one cause could be my ACER and its OS-handling of USB-MIDI actitivties, 2nd effect could have been caused by the latest Windows 11 25H2 updates and the 3rd cause is possible (but unlikely, from my point of view) the Genos2’s MIDI-settings, which I checked thoroughly in many respect, but there are only few settings which can be changed.
I tried (as described in my former thread) USB-2.0 hubs, changed and renewed a USB-A to USB-B cable (from UGreen), now I am at the end of my wisdom and knowledge.

A last remark at this place: As I learned during that hours to find a way to fix the problems, MobileSheets works with a given fixed MIDI USB-ID-enumaration if Keyboard is linked to the PC / notebook and saves this parameter. My ACER has only USB-A 3.0 ports and as I know, those IDs change whenever a new link is done. That could be a possible cause, as the first MIDI link was activateted and MS worked as it should. And each further link fails and causes that trouble. But it is only a guess, nothing real substantial.

Have you tried re-installing the Yamaha Steinberg USB-driver ? (you probably need to deinstall it first)

Windows update blats one of my devices (a Topfield TF5800). This requires me to disable "driver signature enforcement" as it's driver is not signed - I suspect yours is)

- Yes USB-Driver firstly deinstalled (followed by Notebook restart)
- Steinberg driver was downloaded from Yamaha site as well and it is signed.

Maybe worth a try - Some people with the same problem have reported this below gets the MIDI ports showing again, I assume if it works for you it would have to be done after every reboot/power on until Microsoft issues a bug fix.

Open Windows Terminal as an Administrator (“run as administrator”)
Type net stop midisrv
After that completes, type net start midisrv
Start up the app you want to use with MIDI

Hi all and many, many thanks for your ideas und possible solutions.
And thanks to Mike for his support and mail conversation.

I use a German Forum (www.keyboarder-forum.de) too and tried to get additional ideas. Now I found a solution which works to get MobileSheets (MS) linked again.
I refer to that thread mentioned (Nickname "Dromeus") and he described the following:

"Microsoft is currently distributing the new Windows MIDI Service. Your problem could be related to this, as bugs have already been reported.
First, you can check whether the new MIDI service is already installed on your computer. There is a tool for this that can be downloaded here:
https://microsoft.github.io/MIDI/
When you start the tool, a warning will appear, which you can ignore. You must click on “More information” and then “Run anyway.”

Then, a screen opens and if the MIDI services are already installed, you will see the following message:
              MIDI Services are available
If this is the case for you, you can restart this service.
To do this, open "Windows Services":

- Press the Windows key + R
- Enter services.msc and press Enter
- Scroll down to Windows MIDI Service, select it, and click “Restart”.

So I check that and it worked.
However, I had to change "Windows MIDI Service" from manual to automatic (mouse right buttom for your choice); after I turned off my ACER notebook and made a New Start, the problem was not finally solved, MIDI Link was lost again.
But based of my "many days experience" I remembered to check the Windows 11 "Device Manager":
After shutting down, I restarted the notebook (keyboard=ON, not yet connected to my ACER notebook).
Looking into the W 11 "Device Manager" > "Audio, Video and Gamecontroller" > 3rd TAB "View" > Click on “Show hidden devices”.

If I uninstall (=delete) the grayed-out “Digital Keyboard” shown in “View” (“Show hidden devices”) and then restart the computer, connect the Genos2 to USB-A, open MobileSheets (MS) (wait 30 seconds), I can open the sheet music PDF again by tapping the song on the registration display.
This procedure allows to use MobileSheets as before by tapping on the registration display.

As far as I could ascertain (using Windows 11 - AI "Co-Pilot"), MobileSheets creates a USB ID when connected, and this ID is reactivated when reconnected after a new turn on of PC / notebook. But with Windows 11 USB 3.0 ports on PCs/notebooks, new IDs are assigned when the PC is booted up. Since (as to my information) MobileSheets expects the last ID entry, it is therefore unable to establish a link again cause the USB-A cable gets a new ID by Windows 11 - MIDI operations and the former USB-ID is hidden.

Hope my findings are of worth for other forum members.
I think, Mike Zuber, will read my posting and he could help to fix that problem.
