Hello Mike,

 I regularly browse through scores starting by opening one from the library screen (filtered or not) and then tapping next to go from score to score without returning to the library screen.
Some of those scores I actually play and some I just give a quick look and skip..
Currently they all end up in the 'Recent' tab.

I thought it would be nice if there were an option to add only the actually played scores to the 'recent' tab.
I guess that one way this could be achieved, would be by adding a delay before the scores are added to the 'Recent' tab so that only the scores that are viewed for more than say 20 seconds or so are actually added.

I'd definitely like to hear if other users would also benefit from having a setting to control this. It makes populating the recent list more tedious, but if it's beneficial to lots of users, I can certainly add it to the list of things to do. I can certainly eventually add it regardless, but I have to work through a lot of high priority changes this year, so I'm not sure when I will fit in time for it.

I hardly ever use the Recent list because it is full of songs that I have just opened to have a quick view of the contents.

I suspect that you are adding to the Recent list immediately when a song is opened. How about just remembering the time of opening and then, when opening the next song (or closing MS), check to see if the delay for the previous song is long enough to warrant adding to Recents?
The other alternative is that you fire a timer for 20 secs (say) in the future and add it to Recents if the song is still open when the timer fires.
Probably not too difficult to code - but what do I know?

PS 1: No idea what you do if the song has not been visible for enough time eg user has spent time in another app.
PS 2: Perhaps a bit more difficult if adding a Setlist to Recents
PS 3: I'm not used to using Recents so wouldn't probably use it if it is implemented!.

I seldom use the Recents list beyond the top few entries because there's so much chaff.  

I do use the list when I have been adding tunes to a setlist, collection etc., and when I have been editing tunes. 
That's why I find the first three or four tunes in Recents to be useful.

It would be somewhat helpful to have a more curated* Recents, but not a very high priority

* e.g., add to recents only when a user interacts with a tune by adding it, playing audio, flipping a page, editing metadata or text contents.

I use the Recent list every now and then for these use cases
- looking up what we practised in a rehearsal (to write it down in an XLSX file outside of MobileSheets to keep track when we played a song for the last time)
- to correct a setlist that we spontaneously changed during a gig
- to make a note what we played in an interesting session
- ...

As I do this usually on the same evening or the next day, it's pretty easy to skip songs that I just opened to search around or opened erroneously.
Waiting a few seconds before adding a song to the Recent list looks simple and pragmatical, it might help that the Recent list is less cluttered. Rey_a's proposal of waiting 20 seconds seems to be a good idea.
Imho nice to have, but nothing essential if it's easy to implement. In case it's difficult to program, it's not worth the effort.

Btw: we can already select songs on the recent list and apply "Add to Setlist / Collection" or "Create Setlist / Collection from Songs". That's sometimes helpful in the use cases I mentioned above. And we can apply other group features like remove from list or filtering.

Btw 2: there's "Clear List" above the list in case somebody finds the length of the list confusing. I used "Clear List" regularly in the beginning, by now I just stop scrolling through the list when the entries are too old to be interesting. The number of entries in the Recent list has been increased by request a long time ago, I never reached the end.

Most important use case of recent for me is to keep track of which songs I last batch imported for further editing, moving somewhere and even deleting them completely for better reimport or whatever. This mustn't be broken by changes to the recent tab.

Batch importing or CSV importing also add the imported songs to the Recent list. This is none of MY use cases, but it will definitely be broken in case the proposed delay is implemented. Taking that into account I think it's best to leave the Recent list feature unchanged.

I could still leave it so that songs created by import are always added to the recent list, but it's only when actually loading a song or setlist that the delay is enforced.

My preference would be to leave "recent" as it is but rather to implement a quick browse function be it a thumbnail big enough to recognize the song or a quick view window for browsing lists that doesn't trigger the recent list. If a song is opened conventionally (or created) it should display in recent regardless of delay.

I personally favour the 20 second delay otherwise the Recent List is almpost useless to me and probably also to a large percentage of other users, but a setting to either keep it as now, or invoke a 20 second delay, would perhaps then work for most.

In my original post, I suggested an option, not a change, so that if Mike does decide to implement it, there needs to be no change for the people that prefer things to stay as they are now.

If changes are made, I, too, would prefer the option to keep it as is for those of us who use it in its current condition. 

How I use it: I make a temporary setlist for a gig and I almost never follow it exactly. I always skip some songs and add others on the fly. So afterward, I use the recents tab to create my setlist to save. I scroll down and find the first song I did and longpress, then continue selecting each song working my way to the top (which will be the last song I did.) I just skip any that I clicked on but didn't actually sing. This is easy to remember right after the event. Then I Create Setlist from Songs and name it with the venue and date. The setlist now acurately has my list of songs in the order I performed them in.  I always make sure I do this soon after a performance before I start browsing through songs again. I guess I'm nervous about an algorithm making the decision whether a song should be on the list or not.

I had asked a question about how the Recents tab worked a while back and if I'm remembering correctly, this ONLY works IF you have "Always load whole setlist" turned OFF in Settings. This is what works best for me.

I also use the Recents tab all the time at home when editing or adding songs to my 2 tablets. Long story, they are not in sync. So I'm editing bit by bit on each device. (There are reasons why I'm not comfortable with replacing a backup from one to the other.) In this scenario it's not critical the amount of time a song was opened on the screen, just that I looked at it.
