I often work with Transcribe from Seventh String software to watch, slow down, annotate etc videos and audio clips while I'm practicing a piece in MSP.
I would like to assign a smart button to open in Transcribe the video related to the score that I'm working on.
I can use the "Open file in external application" action as long as video files are associated with Transcribe as a default but right now my default for videos is VLC player which is fine to open videos in general outside MSP and I prefer not to change it.
So when I select the video it opens in VLC.
For videos in Youtube I use "Open URL"
Perhaps one smart button action could be "Run an external application" where one could specify the video file as argument for Transcribe as application, much like a regular Windows shortcut.

Did you try using "Open file in external application" with .xsc files?
.xsc is the native file type for Transcribe and stores internally a reference to the sound or video file that shall be opened, together with the annotations, loop info and so on that you specify in Transcribe. In case you're curious about details: .xsc files can be opened with any text editor.
Please report what your findings here in the forum, I'm also using Transcribe frequently, but by now without linking it with MobileSheets.

MobileSheets has limited options on how it can invoke external applications. It all has to go through the UWP framework, and that will only launch them using the default application. However, once I switch to WinUI 3, I will have more options, as I can probably then allow users to specify a command to run, which would allow for any application to be run with any arguments.

As expected:  "Open file in external application" referencing an .xsc file works fine.
Transcribe registers itself as standard program for XSC files, so that double-clicking an XSC file opens it in Transcribe.
I checked that with an XSC file that links to an audio file, it should be also working fine with any video file type that is supported by Transcribe.
