Peculiar page turn pedal behaviour
#1
Hello @all,

I am using a Donner page turn pedal, and so does my co-musician. We use different dual tablet setups in book mode and different MSP versions but experience the same strange paging behaviour.

Due to my very old Samsung tablets with some Android 5.0.x I am stuck with the old/last MSP version that supports them, while my friend uses a dual TCL Nxtpaper 14 system, freshly installed only about two months ago on Android 14 (IIRC).

We observe frequently the same faulty paging behaviour:

Right after starting a session, everything works well after starting MSP on either book-mode tablet pair: pedal is connected (according to its blinking behaviour) to the respective master tablet. Master and servant connect as expected. Alternate paging - odd pages left; even pages right - works well.

After some time, with the paging frequently being used while playing (thus not inducing the sleep mode in the pedals), the paging simply stops without any warning or other side effect. Trampling on the Donners just doesn't do anything any more. The continuing blinking of the pedals show that they didn't go to sleep.

If you touch one of the tablets with a finger once, as if to trigger the paging thereby: The first touch does not result in a paging, but the pedals do work again thereafter!

After some random time interval (order of roughly 10-20 mins) this effect re-appears again, and can be remedied with the same procedure over again.

Before my co-musician set up her dual tablet system I was induced to think that this behaviour might just be caused by my somewhat ancient system (tablets from around 2014 or so). But when the same effect surfaced on the new TCL tablets as well, I'd rather rule out this theory and regard it as an inherent bug.

Since both dual tablet systems are exclusively used as score displays we cannot report on the behaviour in otherwise oriented applications.

Any help is, of course, greatly welcome! Or at least pointers to get a better hold on fencing in the error condition.

Cheers,
Petra

I will have to see if I can reproduce what you are describing, but it sounds like that might not be easy. Are you connecting over bluetooth or WiFi?

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

we are both connecting via Bluetooth. But please mind that the tap with the finger on the tablets restores the pageability without any further interaction with either pedal or tablet.

Cheers,
Petra
