Metadata mapping
#1
I had noticed before that the abc field S: (source) was mapped into the MS field Type rather than, e.g., Artist.

Today I noticed that the abc field B: (book) is mapped to the MS field Artist!

This creates a problem because Artist gets filled up with entries like
Ferrel, Frank (2020) I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy, Ferrel Publishing, Bath ME, p.31
or
O'Neill (Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies) 1903 #1060

Often they cannot be removed directly from the Fields tab, because the entry is too long for MS to display the x

Also, as far as I can tell, each entry must be removed by going to "Select Items", right clicking the entry, clicking Delete, then clicking OK.  Not too bad for a ingle instance, but after a hundred...

(side note on mapping, M: (meter) does not map to Signature - should it?)

(other side note.  from the abc metadata below, MS added Bayard and Pennsylvania as keywords. Very clever and maybe helpful, but I'm not sure what's going on here)

This is a bug. I'll get it fixed.

Thanks,

Metadata mapping is indeed something that needs further discussion and some input from ABC experts.
It has already been mentioned here: https://www.zubersoft.com/mobilesheets/f...15116.html
Maybe we should open a topic in the ABC forum https://groups.io/g/abcusers/topics

Also, I don't think M should be mapped to signature. Look at the examples here: http://moinejf.free.fr/abcm2ps-doc/features.html

Most of those wouldn't make any sense for the signature field. I'm currently mapping the Q field to signature (I extract the first part if a tempo is listed after).

Looking here https://abcnotation.com/wiki/abc:standar...ion_fields, mapping S to Source Type makes sense to me. The field is literally called "source", and an example listed is "s:collected in Brittany".

So the only bug I see here is that there are typos in the code and it's mapping the B field to Artist instead of Album (which is the closest field in MobileSheets to that).

Sorry Mike, I have to disagree.

Regarding M: vs. Q:
if I look at the first songs of Paul Hardy's Session Tunebook I find

X:1025
T:Abbess, The
R:Air
C:Andy Cutting 2010
O:England
Z:Paul Hardy's Session Tunebook 2025 (see www.pghardy.net). Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA licenced.
M:4/4
L:1/8
Q:1/4=100
K:G

X:1002
T:Abbots Bromley Horn Dance
R:Jig
C:Trad.
O:England; Thaxted
Z:Paul Hardy's Session Tunebook 2025 (see www.pghardy.net). Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA licenced.
M:6/8
L:1/8
Q:3/8=60
K:Em

Imho it's obvious that M: should be used to populate Signatures. The first part of Q: contains the note value that shall be used to specify the tempo on the score.

Regarding S: vs. source_type
My gutt feeling says that S: in ABC is focused on "source", used to document things like "as played by ... " or "learned from ... " whereas source_type in MobileSheets has default values like "Lead Sheet", "Charts", "Lyrics" to be used for specifying the type of the score in the sense of content, layout or typesetting style.
I'm not an expert what the common conventions of the ABC community are about using the information fields. Maybe Paul Hardys Tunebook, https://thesession.org/tunes or https://michaeleskin.com/tunebooks.html can be helpful or we could start a topic in the ABC forum https://groups.io/g/abcusers/topics

Thanks very much!

Perhaps the best quick reference for abc fields is in Appendix A.2 of Guido Gonzato's "making Music with ABC 2"

(available at https://abcplus.sourceforge.net/#ABCGuide)

(of course not everyone adheres to the convention.  I misuse the A: field quiet shamelessly)
