Hi, I bought the app couple of days ago, now trying to learn all its functions. I'm a bit confused by the sync option. The way I organized my sheets until today might not be ideal for this app, but I'm not sure about it. I read the manual and watched the video tutorials but didn't find any useful info for me there.
Let me explain briefly:
On my laptop, I have my dropbox folder named MUSICSHEETS in which I keep all my sheets organized in 3 folders, GUITAR, PIANO and UKULELE. Then in these folders I can have other sub-folders with the name of the composer, etc. So, for example, one of my sheet files can have the path MUSICSHEETS/PIANO/CHOPIN/Nocturne1.pdf
Now, on my android tablet I import all my sheets just by selecting the cloud and the main folder (MUSICSHEETS). The app does its thing, searches in the sub-folders and import everything correctly. I understand of course that the app itself puts all the imported files into just one folder without any sub-folders. I'm fine with it.

At this point I thought I could use the synchronization to keep everything updated in case I modify/add/delete files from the cloud itself OR the tablet, but when I try to sync the app asks me to select just 1 folder in the cloud and it doesn't search in the sub-folders I have created. It also starts to upload all the files in that selected folders, which in my case doesn't make any sense, since I already have everything in the cloud..

The point for me was to use my laptop as main place where I keep all my sheets (into the dropbox folder) organized the way I prefer, and being able to make changes from one end or the other and then synchronize everything. Am I doing things wrong?

Hello,

You can't use the library synchronization feature for what you are wanting - that's not what it's designed for. It's designed to upload a copy of your library to a specific folder (which should be managed by MobileSheets and not edited manually), and that folder can then be used to keep multiple devices in sync. It's mainly a collaboration feature. In terms of what you are wanting, you should just upload additional files, update existing files in your existing folders, and then batch import each time you want to pull in any of the changes you've made. MobileSheets will ignore identical files, update existing songs if there are newer versions of the files they use, and create new songs if any new files are added. The only thing you'll have to do is delete songs manually and also delete the files in the cloud folder.

This does mean that if you modify files on the tablet itself, you have to manually upload the changes you've made, but MobileSheets generally doesn't modify the underlying PDFs and such unless you are embedding annotations.

Ok, thank you. The app has so many option I thought I could have missed some. At least now I'm sure I can't use it the way I wanted, I guess I'll just adapt to it cause the sync function is too useful to ignore. I'll just merge all my files in one folder, maybe create a naming convention that helps me identify them easily. Cheers.

Well, as someone who doesn't let MS manage its files and who went (tablet wise) from Android to Win to iOS and this year again back to Android and had and will always have my main sheet folder on my PC with lots of subfolders (including files not meant for MS) I always synced my files and the database (semi)manually. The sync feature as it is now is not for me. But it works fine for me for years with my own sync.

I'm syncing my sheets folder between three PCs with resilio-sync (it's been free for a while now and works fine; syncthing is another alternative). I keep the same folder structur (and have Win MS installed on alle three PCs as well).
I automatically sync one of the Win folders into the cloud (I'm with pCloud) for backup reasons or online demand.

I keep the same folder structure on my Android device (resilio should work too but mostly I sync it manually with the great app Beyond Compare).

Now the trick is to make you're mobilesheets.db visible (in the preferenceds) and I save it in the root of the Android folder. All the usual changes (annotations, setlists, collections etc.) are saved in this file. And if you don't change anything in your folder structure you just have to copy the mobilesheets.db to the other devices to have them sync. I recently found the cross platform app Blip for it which makes it very easy (even to iOS or Android). 

Only if I add or delete files from the notes folder (or change the structure otherwise) I have to sync the folder (if it's not done automatically) to my other devices. But usually a quick "blipping" the db is enough for my syncing needs. Maybe with that (or something similar) to you, too.
