Importing pdf's
#1
Hello members

A very basic question here ( usinf Mobilesheets on Chromebook )...

When I use 'Import'   is the actual pdf copied into Mobilesheets' library or is it only the path to the file recorded in the library?

When I backup the library are all the pdf's copied to a nominated location?

Thank you

That depends on the Library setting. According to the manual:

Let MobileSheets Manage My Files
Determines if MobileSheets will copy all imported files to its storage location
or if files will be used from their original import location. See the section on
storage for more information.

If you backup your library, all the PDFs are stored inside a single .msb file along with the database file and application settings.

Along this tangent, if a pdf is imported that has far more than needed, when edited in MS, is the file actually truncated, or just the view changed? (My summer group has taken to giving us the full scores with all the parts - at times 100 pages - and I can import and edit fine, just not sure if spaxe is wasted warranting an actual external edit prior to import.

Thanks,

Well, it depends.

The default is that the source PDF isn't changed and it's just the view (page order, annotations etc.) so no size saving that way.

You can write your changes from within MS into the PDF so it will be changed. If there's a size advantage you must check yourself. Not always does the PDF library of MS compress as good as the original PDF is.

Also keep in mind that the (same) PDF can be used (if the not needed part are other songs and parts) again for the "not needed part" if it is needed without additional space because the existing PDF is "reused".

Thanks,

It's definitely taking more space. I always dissect pages which are only needed.
Chrome browser can do that very quickly via it's print function/save as PDF.
MS back up is much faster.
