Auto MS listen and Connect
#1
Hi,

I'd like to request that mobilesheets change its behavior such that it is always listening for a connection from the companion (this is easy to do with a listen and notify model, see here: https://share.google/aimode/TiBaotVP0DkQDAsdY ).  Now you have to go to MS and use the "Connect to Companion" command and then go to the companion and complete the connection (which often doesn't work and the process has to be repeated multiple times, often resetting MS and possible rebooting the Chromebook).

I think none of this is necessary and could be greatly simplified by have MS have a background listen always pending.  When a connect request comes in from the companion, a connection can be made.  When the companion disconnects, MS goes back to regular, disconnected mode and starts another background listen.

I use MS on one room and run companion in a different room.  This constant walking back and forth to connect (especially when it fails) is disruptive.

Thanks for your consideration.

Why don't you use a remote connection to your device in the other room to avoid walking? I always use that for 3 PCs in my home network at different locations.

I'm not sure what you mean.  My request addresses two issues:

1) MS is not reliable in connecting with the companion and often requires multiple s back and forth trips and resetting MS.
2) It eliminates to even touch the MS machine - if it's always in listen mode, then the companion can connect and disconnect at will with no interaction at the MS machine.

I don't find any issues reliably connecting to the companion.
Your problems might be dependnt on your devices, your network or perhaps MS and the companion are too far away to form a reliable connection.

I suggest that, as a test, you put the MS and the companion system in the same room to see whether or not the connection is reliable.

Yeah, regardless that I probably would neither need nor like a continually listening connection, I just wanted to suggest a general solution to the "have to walk to another room" problem of yours.
You still have to reset MS or what you have to do on the device on the other room, but if the walking between rooms bothers you, I repeat: Why not from a remote desktop with a connection to the device in the other room and do it, well, remotely?

Nope, not for me.  My first thought is security.  If you have a constant listen going then which companion will it connect to?  Is there someone nearby while you're, say, playing a gig, who is wanting to connect to their own tablet and get yours instead?  Maybe they have a malicious streak and decide to delete your set list, or worse, your files?

If implemented, at the very least I would want this to be OFF by default, and to be in control of when it can be made active.

I understand what you're trying to achieve, but your proposed method is, for me, a bridge too far.
You're only paranoid if you're wrong  Cool
I'm using an Onyx Boox Tab X, and play low brass: mainly 'Bone and Tuba
