The old laptop I have built in to my live keyboard rig is about 10 years old now.  It is running windows 10.  It's too old for windows 11.  It can't do windows updates (but that doesn't stop it from trying every week.)  I only use it to run mobile sheets, it has no other purpose.  It's never online, except to update MS. I use it as a tablet, with the keyboard folded back.  It's permanently mounted that way.  Always on AC power, because the battery is done.

I'm wondering about installing an android OS on it.  Has anyone run mobile sheets on an android x86 machine?  I know there are emulators, but I'd need a native solution to bypass my non-functional windows OS.  I think I could run chromeOS on it.  Would that run MS?

Otherwise, I guess I'll just unbolt it and get a cheap tablet.  But I'd rather keep it in service if I can... 

EDIT: well large screen tablets for android are not cheap, even used on ebay.  So I'm more motivated to see if I can get this to work.

Use the Windows version of Mobile Sheets. Why would Windows 10 ever stop functioning? I still run VMs with Win95, XP and DOS. If you switch to Chrome, you can run the Android version of Mobile Sheets.

You could register for security updates on Win 10; I don't know why it would be applying any other updates (unless it is trying to update you to where it stopped issuing updates)

There is extended support for W10 if you actually think MS "support" has value, and you can turn off it's attempts to update if it bugs you that much.

Or, you can grab the LTSC Win 11 image which does not contain all the nonsensical requirements, and give that a try.

Take a look at chromebooks. Cheap, big screen, keyboard
