Sync to ownCloud / nextCloud / WebDAV folder
#46
Synchronizing to a local folder is still planned, but is a completely separate effort from the webDAV implementation.

It's on my list, but I can't say exactly when it will be implemented, but I'd like for it to be added in the first half of the year. There's too many variables for me to say exactly when it will be implemented, as lots of different users are all asking for different things.

I believe, that more and more people do not want to use Microsoft, Google or othe clouds hosted by US companies. There are excellent european clouds like kDrive e.g.
I use MobileSheets every day: a super efficient and reliable app! Thanks.

Hello,
I have now already provided 10 tablets with MobileSheets to choir members. The tablets are Android devices without any user account or Google registration. This way, the tablets can easily be shared or handed over to other members without any password issues arising. To update MobileSheets on the tablets with new songs, I currently create a batch from my MobileSheets version, upload it to my private server, and each member then downloads the new version. This is quite complicated. Therefore, I strongly support the WebDAV approach and really hope it becomes available as soon as possible.

Sadly after many years of using Mobilesheets for my music, and just as folks have been posting here since 2012 about the demise of the big corporate clouds, I have mostly weened myself of GDrive and long ago abandoned the others in favour of running a Nextcloud server on a Raspberry Pi5 that lives on my bookcase by the router.

As mobilesheets is still lagging (understandably, it really is a big ask) I am migrating to enoiu's ScorePDF, ads and all for the moment as it is clearly no match for all the other great features of Mobilesheets, but I need to juggle charts this week via Nextcloud and, for the moment, only need simple one-page headcharts that fit my ancient tablet's screen.  I don't know how this app does it, but as with a growing number of others, it is listed as a cloud option and seamlessly loads from browsing the remote files.

Auto-sync would be wonderful, but I would be quite happy with import-from into locally-managed.  Smile

The Nextcloud implementation is completely done on Android, so the changes are now being ported to Windows and iOS.

That's good to hear, Mike.

Is this already enabled in Android?
Under "Storage" I can still see only Dropbox/OneDrive/GoogleDrive.

Not yet, I am code reviewing all the changes that were made on Android, and the iOS work is underway by the developer working with me.

What I haven't understand right now regarding cloud syncing:

Do I have to sync a whole database or can I just put PDFs in a folder which are imported on all syncing devices?

Right now I do it manually like this:

- Import and edit everything on a master machine, make a backup to a cloud folder for other musicians and/or sync everything to my other machines/mobile devices.

- Import and edit everything on a master machine and export parts of the database as .msf (e.g. all Bb or Eb parts), put those in my cloud for other musicians to download and import.

I wonder if I can make all changes to the database on my master machine and have the possibility for other musicians to sync only their parts without me having to export parts as described above.

At least for my own machines, Nextcloud sync will make things easier.

Thank you very much.

You have to synchronize the whole database, but you can optionally choose to not synchronize some types of data, such as annotations, group metadata, display settings overrides, etc.

If you need to selectively sync only a small amount of data, the sync feature will not work for you until I add a way to limit what is synchronized to only selected groups.

Selected setlists would do for me ;-)
