Reviving this since it's been quiet since the Feb 2025
I want to add a use case that's a bit different from the orchestra scenarios above, because I think it changes one piece of the spec. I run sound/book for working bands where the personnel rotates - subs come and go gig to gig, sometimes returning after a year off. Two problems, both of which point at versioning:
**1. Setlist pushing, instrument-specific, pre-ordered.** Right now, I'd need to build and maintain a separate setlist per instrument, since setlists are built from the per-instrument song entries. For a fixed orchestra roster that's a one-time cost. For a band where the lineup and the set both change weekly, that's a lot of parallel setlists to keep in sync by hand, every time. Versioning would fix this directly: one setlist built once at the tune level, and each device resolves it to the right part.
**2. Version control for a sub who's been away.** This is the one where I think there's a real open question, separate from versioning itself. If a trombone player who subbed for me last year picks up the gig again, their MobileSheets still has last year's charts - and right now I'm not sure there is a "pull the current version of the book" action that I'm confident will update those stale entries rather than duplicate alongside them. Would versioning change how re-import/re-sync matches an existing song to an updated one? Or is that a separate matching-logic question worth solving on its own?
This app is so cool, and definitely fills a lot of niche's that no one else does, I'm just struggling to figure out a consistent, low-friction solution to my "multiple books, multiple subs, multiple setlists" problem (i.e. the cover/commercial bandleader problem, not the orchestra director or musician problem).
Cheers,
