Adding a video to a song
#1
Hi all -

This might be really simple but danged if I can figure it out.  I want to attach a video of a solo to a song in MobileSheetsPro, but when I try to add the file, I get told it is not a supported file type, like PDF.  I am making the video on my Fire Tablet, but could do it other places.

Is there a video format that is supported?  Thanks in advance.

I don't currently support video playback in MobileSheetsPro. That's on my list of things to add support for in the future.

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.  Would it be possible to simply allow storage of a video with MobileSheetsPro and we could play it in another way?  That would give us the advantage of backing up everything together.  Or would it make more sense to just move the video to the folder designated to hold additional materials?

Thanks again.

You can already do that if you want - just add a smart button to your song, set the action to "Open File in External Application" and then link it to your video file. Then when you tap the button, it will load the video in whatever application you have set as the default for video files.  When I add support for video, it's going to require database and UI updates, new translations, integration with youtube and support for playing videos on the device itself. So I'd rather tackle that all at once in a larger update.

Wow - thanks so much for the great support!

This is fantastic. Is there any way to have the button launch the video upon the song starting - to avoid having to touch the screen to press the Smart Button?

My dream would be to go to the Next song (which I do using a MIDI foot pedal), and the video for that song auto-launches.

At the moment, no, I don't support triggering buttons automatically as they weren't really intended to be used like that. You can trigger smart buttons with a pedal or MIDI action though, if that is helpful to you in any way.

Hi Mike, I have a few very specific requests for video playback support, if I may be so bold to ask, but being a developer myself, I realize this might need to be preplanned together with the other UI integration updates as one your previous replies mentioned instead of perhaps added later, depending on how you would plan this, when the time comes.

My scenario is as follows:

I created an orchestral backing track, with a video component to it so that when there are solo parts to my instrument, then I can still play in the right tempo to stay in sync with the video playback, and be able to be in the right place musically when the rest of the instrumentation joins back in again. Kind of like a visual clicktrack video. Currently I use nPlayer Plus with its PiP feature so I can have that staying on top.

So suggestion one is, then when the time comes for the video implementation, please consider doing a kind of resizable, moveable PiP window style. This would be so that the window can be moved around depending on the score (this move around I assume will be manual when the player is about to start playing the piece). Also this window would hopefully be resizable in order to accomodate not to obscuring the score too much.

Suggestion two is then that a offset value can be specified so that one can have the audio play a little bit earlier/later than the video, and not 100% in sync, as it would normally do. I have noticed that if this playback is done via bluetooth audio, there is a delay between the video and audio, almost like a movie where the audio is slightly out of sync and then the actor's mouths don't 100% line up with the video effect. So being able to specify an offset like this would help to keep things in sync in a case like this. This is the reason I went for nPlayer Plus as it supports this feature.

I just finished creating a video for backing track purpose of Shostakovich's Opus 102, Piano Concerto No 2, 2nd Movement, the Andante, where I will be playing the piano part with full orchestral backing, so I can supply that video for your reference if you would desire to see firsthand what I am meaning.

Another thing that I did notice, but I don't think it is MobileSheets driven, is that when audio playback via bluetooth is happening, then my pageturner pedal and this bluetooth music video audio stream competes to the point where the video stutters, but as I said, I suppose this would be due to hardware/bluetooth technology etc, and not something that is an issue with MobileSheets itself, but maybe it can serve as a special known pre-known non-MobileSheets issue.

Thank you for an awesome and amazing app, I think it is the best out there!
